I think if you start to think that Scott is not the mc in this show, you can start to like much more what happens in the show.
Even though I would have love a 1 by 1 adaptation of the novels, this felt much more fresh, I am 100% sure that I enjoyed this more than however much I would’ve enjoyed a 1 by 1 adaptation. It’s great that we get an adaptation where Scott is not the focus of attention (at least not directly), but the whole world that surrounds his journey. I’ve always thought that at the end of the novel while Scott had a full character arc ramona was just starting to make a few steps towards changing as a person, and this totally solves that issue for me. And the other great thing is that in this reinterpretation of the show, the writers have the chance to create more stories about the world, since they’ve already established that this is not your original Scott pilgrim, and since this season has tackle most other character in a second season we can watch more of scott fr this time, since we didn’t see much of him.
So basically they removed Scot and turned it into a "girl boss" show.
Makes one think of the new He-Man.
Lucas and Gordon's friendship was something I didn't know I wanted!
What i like about it is that it’s kind of a what-if but it also a sequel, just in a multiverse kind of way, the events of the books/movie does happen just we also see what the end result to that version of the character, i like how the series expands and give the other character development and the world in general. I was expecting a series about the comic but since we have so many versions of the original story, from the original/movie/game , I’m glad they went this direction.
Should i read the graphic novel first, or should i watch the anime first?
I definitely liked it. It’s not the same high octane action as the movie, but the slow burn is still enjoyable. I liked getting time with the other characters. It had Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya vibes but done better.
And Bryan did admit during the writing of the comics and movie that he never really explored Ramona as a character and that she was more of mcguffin if anything. I definitely wish Scott was more present though but it works enough where we’re looking forward to see him again while spending time with Ramona.
I really enjoyed seeing how Scott had to work to be with Ramona, and now she has to put in the work too.
Their relationship can now be even stronger after seeing and understanding how much they each worked to be with one another.
Relationships are never simple or easy, but it really really helps when you’re both as committed as you can be.
sadly….nah man, I just wanted an straight adaptation, instead we got MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE REVELATION 0.2 BUT at least more fun, less preachy…….this was unnecessary, and just another bait and switch that now made me worry every time Netflix will promote anything from now on………if they wanted a re imagine, then announced, show that clip in the trailer, so people know…..instead of sucker punched us like that…..I watched all episodes now, it's fine, is still the fun world and the characters, Ramona is an enjoyable lead and ep.3 was easily my favorite, but the more the story goes the less enjoyable become, and the last 2 episodes I just find them idiotic, is not all bad, the animation is amazing, the cast again on point, but man this was IT, if Scott Pilgrim was gonna get a FAITHFUL ADAPTATION from the books, THIS WAS IT and they blow it off, they scrub up………is fine, but you already see a lot of fans hating this, and for good reasons.
They should saved this idea for season 2 indeed of making it the main focus on it's own first season.
i find a lot of the negative criticism of this show to be insincere. personally the bait and switch was super exciting. if you want the story of the comics, simply read the comics. as a fan of them, i loved getting to see the same characters in new situations. i just wish we could've seen more development on scott's side, but im hopeful for a season 2. also maybe then we'll FINALLY get to see lisa miller get attention. she is so neglected by this franchise lol.
I don’t get how some people label scott at fault on hurting people around him when the premise gave you a face value plot, the exes formed an alliance to ruin Ramona’s love life and scott’s precious little life too except for knives, she’s the one who’s been hurt most here. In scott’s defense everyone is horrible😂. When he’s missing they just pick fights & hurt each other in the process although resolved without anyone getting turned into coins & some even became friends.
This isn’t thrash cause I think it’s bad, it’s thrash cause the writers n Netflix lied. They literally presented it as the Scott pilgrim oh story in animation form & then they waited till it was out n ppl were furious too let us know it’s an alternate universe. They knew ppl wouldn’t watch it so they lied as usual to gain ppls support.
I’m too tired of the bait n switch n ruining amazing shows w bullshit like this which is why they can keep their show forever 😐
Alright for people who have read the original I think they most certainly will not like this. Personally for me the show wants to be judged based off of its own merits but the problem is that they constantly remind you of the original and also it was marketed as an adaptation for fans waiting for said adaptation for about a decade so we will be rightfully mad. Besides that I thought the show itself was not that good it lacked any sort of nuance whatsoever and felt super hamfisted. When the characters were sad or your supposed to pity them it just went completely full throttle there was no gray area and lacked any real depth it was just so plain and simple. Ramona as a character is just so boring it feels like she's just perfect and super strong on her own and doesn't need anyone also it makes no sense why Ramona is so in love with Scott all of a sudden because their relationship did not grow at all they barely even interacted with each other at all.
I feel like they would've had a greater effect in exploring these characters and the journey of Scott and Ramona's relationship both with eachother and themselves by keeping Scott around. Like Scott becoming self aware perhaps and instead of beating the EX's down he and Ramona try to quell their pain through and then Scott learning more about Ramona through them, Ramona learning more about Scott, and then looking at their toxic traits from a more serious lens. And I understand the backlash from fans, it felt like in the same vain as He-Man, where they advertise the series as one way, but then pulled the rug. At this point I think people are tired of the Bait and Switch method. I enjoyed Scott don't get me wrong, but I really think the series would benefit more if had him working with Ramona and build their relationship together as the series progressed.
i love that this show is receiving positive feedback. i thought i was going to hate it since it's another bait and switch but the characters' personality and cool animations had me hooked
I personally like the fact that Scott is gone for so long because there wasnt very much to do when he got back in canon, so if he just came back after 2 or 3 episodes then i feel that the suhow would have gotten very boring and i think the way the show handles Scotts disappearance was pretty good overall. (Other than basically everyone except Ramona not caring about Scotts "death")
As a fan of the comics, movie, and video game I was shocked at what they did but absolutely welcomed by it. While the future self concept has been done to death it really worked for a story like Scott Pilgrim where he could see his future version of him self being far gone as a warning on who he shouldn’t become
The visuals and ost for this show were absolutely perfect imo. Voice cast was a lot better, and michael cera's scott was such a huge improvement from his more apathetic awkward characterization from the film. I do have to say that I definitely think the show suffered from scott's prolonged absence. Even if the improved development of all the other characters was pretty great for the most part, I really do think scott's backstory and improvement of major character flaws kind of carried the original story for me. Hope we can see another season of the show to dig into the meat of his character more.
To be fair these actors had almost 20 years to get to know each other
I mean book 4-6 is completely different than the movie but it was nice to finally see the art style played out. I hope though if they ever do "Lost at Sea" they dont mess with it.
I agree with you about the chemistry was lack luster in the live action versus the animated series. I felt like Ramona really did not like Scott but tolerated him. Whereas in the animated series I can see Ramona CLEARLY likes Scott. She smiles!! She's so much more expressive in the TV show than in the movie
Bruh, I just wanted to go and have a nice chill night with my friends watching this, all of us expecting to get something more like the comics. This wasn't it. Yeah, if I want to see the original, I can read the comics, BUT I CAN'T FUCKING DO THAT WITH MY FRIENDS, FOR THAT I NEED AN ADAPTATION!
After watching Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, here's what I have to say. I loved it so much and the first episode genuinely caught me, and everyone else watching, off-guard. I thought it would be just like in the books and movie where Scott fights against Ramona's exes so he would date her, but instead, he "lost" and it because less about Scott and more about Ramona. I also love that we got development on Scott's friends and Ramona's exes. The series does surprisingly well with Ramona taking the lead.
Should I watch the series if I haven't watched the movie or read the books?
still better fandom that can face criticism even tho they liked the show. unless some others series i just wached recently.
I was shocked by what happened at first, but there's no denying that the anime was brilliant nonetheless
